UNITED Capital Fertilizer Zambia Company Limited has disclosed that the firm has plans of expanding its existing fertilizer manufacturing facility.

Oroma Resources Limited, on behalf of United Capital Fertilizer Zambia Company Limited, Company Consultant, Maxwell Nkoya, says the proposed expansion has been estimated at 1.5 billion United States dollars and would significantly increase the company’s fertilizer production capacity.

He said this at a stakeholder’s engagement meeting as part of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed expansion of the company’s existing fertilizer manufacturing facility in the district.

Mr Nkoya explained that the expansion would increase the approved urea production capacity by double, from the current 300 thousand tonnes to a total of 600 thousand tonnes per year.

He further disclosed that the project would also introduce a new ammonium nitrate production capacity of 400 thousand tonnes per year.

Chilanga Town Council Chairperson, Buumba Mulunda said the proposed expansion has the potential to contribute positively to the local economy through increased employment opportunities and enhanced economic activity.
