Chief Kashiba of the Lunda people of Mwense District has called on elected leaders and other stakeholders to help promote the Free-education policy during their tenure of office.

Chief Kashiba says promoting the policy will encourage more girls and boys to acquire education thereby reducing the high illiteracy levels in the district.

 Chief Kashiba pledged to take a leading role to ensure that youths in Mwense District utilise government empowerment initiatives in order for them to secure their future.

“I will also ensure that girls and boys in my chiefdom and district at large acquire education through the free-education policy and utilise the various empowerment programmes that opportunity has been provided by government,” Chief Kashiba said.

Chief Kashiba has since appealed to government to employ more civil servants across various government departments to enhance public service delivery in the district.

The traditional leader particularly called for the deployment of more teachers to improve the teacher to pupil ratio in view of a surge in enrolment levels following the introduction of the free education.

Meanwhile, Chief Kashiba has implored the local authority to expedite road network expansion works using the earth moving equipment that was procured using the CDF.

“Most of our areas in the district are not accessible. Iam happy that the council recently managed to buy equipment but this equipment should now work to construct roads in the district to make areas accessible,” Chief Kashiba said.

He observed that with improved road network, the district is poised to open up more potential economic activities especially in the agricultural and mining sectors.

Chief Kashiba hoped to see growth in the mining sector in Mwense saying mining activities have the potential to transform the socio-economic status of the district through job creation which will also result in a multiplier effect on other income generating activities.
