Application preparation
Maintenance-planner vacancies can exist in mining, manufacturing, utilities and transport. The role may cover work-order quality, scheduling support, parts coordination, shutdown planning and reporting. Read the current advert because planner, supervisor and tradesperson responsibilities are not interchangeable.
Define your planning scope
Record the assets or environment, system, planning horizon, trade knowledge, qualification and experience requested. State whether you created job plans, prepared schedules, updated records or supported a senior planner. Do not claim maintenance approval because you entered data.
Copy software names only when you used them and can explain the task. Spreadsheet experience is useful but should not be renamed as a specialist CMMS.
Build a fictional backlog register
Use imaginary work orders and assets. Include reference, reported need, priority assigned by the authorised role, status, required information, parts status, planned window, owner and age. Add one incomplete request and show that it remains awaiting clarification.
Do not invent technical repair instructions or change priority without authority. The exercise demonstrates record quality and coordination.
Prepare a work-order quality check
Create a checklist for asset identification, problem statement, scope source, required approvals, parts, labour assumptions, documents and closure evidence. Separate operator report, planner preparation and technician finding.
Use one example where a planned part is unavailable. Explain how the status, requisition and stakeholder update would be recorded under the employer process rather than substituting an unapproved item.
Quantify carefully
If you report backlog reduction, schedule compliance or data cleanup, state the period, baseline and your contribution. Avoid claiming a team KPI as solely yours. Where figures are confidential, explain the control improved and how it was verified.
Prepare an interview story about conflicting priorities and another about incomplete history. Strong answers show evidence gathering and escalation, not unilateral decisions outside the role.
Write the CV
Lead with planning environment, systems and relevant trade or coordination evidence. Use bullets with record, control and outcome. Distinguish employment, acting responsibility and training.
Application checks
Verify the employer, contractor relationship, site, roster and current application route. Send only requested documents and never pay for access to a planning system, assessment or guaranteed role. Keep the vacancy and submission confirmation for later verification.
