UKRAINE PREPARES FOR MAJOR INTERNET DISRUPTIONS AS RUSSIA TARGETS DATA CENTERS

Ukraine is preparing for the possibility of widespread internet and digital-service disruptions as Russia continues conducting targeted attacks against the country’s data centers, Prime Minister Koretsky said.

Part of Ukraine’s critical digital infrastructure is being relocated underground, where it will be better protected from missiles and drones. Other systems and essential data are being transferred to cloud storage or physically relocated abroad to provide additional layers of protection.

The goal is redundancy: if one data center is destroyed or disconnected, essential systems can continue operating from another protected location. This is critical not only for public internet access, but also for government services, emergency coordination, communications and the broader economy.

Russia’s objective is not limited to damaging buildings. By striking data centers and internet providers, it is attempting to interrupt the digital infrastructure Ukrainians depend on every day.
