Luanshya District Commissioner Paul Malele has called on residents and investors to establish manufacturing industries that can turn the district’s growing economic activity into jobs and sustainable local businesses.

Mr Malele said Luanshya should build on its agricultural production by developing industries that add value to locally produced goods, rather than relying solely on the revival of mining.

He said farmers in the district produced more than 185,000 50-kilogramme bags of maize, equivalent to approximately 9,250 metric tonnes.

Mr Malele said the district should move beyond producing raw commodities and establish industries that can utilise local agricultural products.

“Let’s open industrial parks and manufacturing industries,” he said.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the reopening of FNB Zambia’s refurbished Luanshya branch.

Mr Malele said Luanshya’s economic growth should be driven by opportunities in agriculture, commerce, entrepreneurship and manufacturing, alongside its mining heritage.

He urged residents to actively participate in establishing businesses that can create employment and stimulate local economic activity.

Mr Malele said the call was in line with the Eighth National Development Plan, which prioritises economic diversification, private sector development and increased citizen participation in economic growth.

He welcomed FNB Zambia’s continued investment in Luanshya, saying access to financial services and capital could help entrepreneurs establish and expand businesses.

He encouraged residents to utilise available financial services to turn the district’s potential into sustainable economic activity.
