Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia Company Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following position: REMANUFACTURING CODED WELDER X 4 VACANCIES Purpose of the Role: The Remanufacturing Coded Welder is responsible for carrying out coded welding, fabrication, structural repairs, component rebuilds, and remanufacturing activities on heavy mining equipment structures and components in accordance with OEM standards, approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and HCM remanufacturing requirements. The role supports component reliability, structural integrity, product quality, and workshop productivity by executing high-quality welding repairs, fabrication work, inspections, and refurbishment activities while maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, and environmental compliance. Reports to: Senior Machineshop Supervisor Branch: Lusaka Reman Contract Duration: Six (6) Months Key Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Structural Welding & Component Repairs Perform coded welding repairs in accordance with approved WPS requirements. Execute structural repairs, crack excavation, weld restoration, and reinforcement activities. Repair frames, trays, buckets, booms, arms, chassis structures, fabricated assemblies, and remanufactured components. Ensure repairs comply with OEM and HCM remanufacturing standards. 2. Structural Inspection & Defect Identification Inspect structures and components for cracks, wear, distortions, and weld failures. Conduct pre-repair inspections and dimensional verification activities. Interpret engineering drawings, repair instructions, and weld symbols. Escalate structural defects and repair recommendations as required. 3. Fabrication & Structural Rebuild Activities Manufacture brackets, stiffeners, gussets, wear plates, and structural supports. Perform flame cutting, grinding, gouging, fitting, and assembly activities. Support component rebuild projects and structural refurbishment programs. Verify dimensional accuracy before welding and installation. 4. Welding Quality & Compliance Execute welding activities in accordance with approved WPS and PQR requirements. Apply approved consumables, welding parameters, and repair standards. Ensure welds comply with engineering specifications and acceptance standards. Support welding audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives. 5. Inspection & NDT Support Conduct visual inspections of completed weld repairs. Prepare structures and components for MPI and DPI inspections. Rectify defects identified during inspections. Maintain repair traceability and quality records. 6. Safety, Environmental & Workshop Compliance Comply with all HCM, OEM, and statutory safety requirements. Conduct JSAs and participate in toolbox meetings. Ensure proper housekeeping and hot work compliance. Support environmental compliance through correct disposal of waste materials. 7. Documentation & Reporting Complete welding reports and repair documentation. Record repair details, materials used, and inspection results. Maintain audit-ready records and traceability requirements. Provide progress updates to the Remanufacturing Welding Technical Advisor. 8. Continuous Improvement Support root cause investigations relating to structural failures. Recommend improvements to welding methods and repair processes. Participate in reliability improvement and technical development initiatives. Contribute to workshop operational excellence objectives. Minimum Requirements Must have a full Grade 12 Certificate. Craft Certificate in Boilermaking, Welding, Metal Fabrication, or related trade. Valid Coded Welding Qualification. 3-5 years’ experience in heavy equipment welding and fabrication. Experience conducting structural repairs on heavy mobile equipment. Experience reading engineering drawings and welding specifications. Experience using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment. ZAQA Validated Qualifications. Key Competencies Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of structural welding, fabrication, coded welding, weld inspections, and heavy equipment repair standards. Quality Orientation: Strong focus on workmanship quality, dimensional accuracy, and welding compliance. Analytical Skills: Ability to identify structural defects, evaluate repair requirements, and support root cause investigations. Drawing Interpretation: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and repair instructions. Safety Orientation: Commitment to safe work practices, environmental stewardship, and quality compliance. Communication & Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with welders, inspectors, engineers, and rebuild teams.
