Police in Kitwe have recovered carcasses believed to be from two cattle suspected to have been stolen from Luanshya District.

The carcasses were recovered from a house in Garnetone, Kitwe, on Sunday morning.

Copperbelt Division Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga said officers from Garnetone Police Station visited the house after receiving a report that five men had been seen skinning two slaughtered cattle, one black and one brown.

Mr Hamoonga said officers recovered four pieces of carcass and a red Toyota Sienta, registration number BCG 6947 and apprehended one suspect identified as 36-year-old Tilimbali Nyirenda of Kitwe while four other suspects escaped.

Mr Hamoonga said the suspect, carcasses and vehicle were handed over to Luanshya Central Police Station for further investigations.

Mr Nyirenda has been charged with being in possession of property suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

Police are investigating the origin and ownership of the cattle as the search for the four escaped suspects continues.

Mr Hamoonga has urged anyone who recently lost cattle matching the description to visit Luanshya Central Police Station with information or documents that could help establish ownership.

He has also appealed to cattle owners in Luanshya and surrounding areas to assist in identifying the animals.
