More than 50 stakeholders are meeting in Lusaka to validate the 2027–2031 El Niño Preparedness and Response Strategy.

The two-day multi-sectoral validation workshop is aimed at strengthening Zambia’s preparedness and response to the potential impacts of El Niño.

Speaking at the meeting, Civil Society Organisations National Coordinator on El Niño Preparedness Abel Musumali said the strategy seeks to strengthen early warning systems and improve access to climate information.

Mr. Musumali said the framework will also enhance the capacity of smallholder farmers, camp officers and agricultural extension officers to better understand and respond to the multi-sectoral impacts of El Niño.

He added that the workshop is expected to identify evidence-based adaptation and resilience measures that can be implemented at community level.

Meanwhile, Action Against Hunger Country Director Mary Kozi said the strategy aligns with the organisation’s work in seven provinces, where it is supporting smallholder farmers and communities to strengthen resilience against climate-related shocks.
