TONSE CONDEMNS DEATH WISHES, HEALTH SPECULATION AND POLITICS OF MOCKERY

The Tonse Alliance condemns in the strongest terms anyone, including our own members and supporters, spreading unverified claims about President Hakainde Hichilema’s health or wishing him dead. Such conduct is unacceptable and must stop immediately.

Political disagreement does not justify cruelty. Wishing death upon another person violates the Christian convictions and respect for human dignity that we profess. No member should mistake such behaviour for loyalty to the Alliance.

Our responsibility is to hold President Hichilema and his Government accountable on democracy, the economy and governance. Personal suffering must never become a political celebration.

Our immediate concern remains the treatment of President Brian Mundubile, Hon. Makebi Zulu, Bishop Trevor Mwamba, Archbishop Alick Banda and other Zambians whose rights we believe are under threat. We demand fair treatment, respect for the rule of law and an end to what we regard as political persecution. Allegations must be tested through credible, independent processes.

We equally condemn political mockery directed at the Church, detained opposition leaders and their families. The standard we demand from our own members must also apply to UPND members and supporters. Nobody’s dignity should depend on their political affiliation.

President Hichilema should publicly and unequivocally condemn such conduct among his supporters. Leadership requires the courage to correct those who praise you, particularly when their behaviour deepens division and undermines national unity.

We reject a political culture in which flattery replaces honest counsel and loyalty is demonstrated through insults against perceived opponents. Zambia deserves leadership that encourages restraint, accountability and respect.

Our instruction to Tonse members is clear: reject rumours, reject death wishes and challenge the Government firmly on its record. We will defend our leaders and demand justice without celebrating anyone’s illness or wishing harm upon another Zambian.
