The Road Development Agency (RDA) in Muchinga Province has sensitised contractors on requirements for bidding for routine road maintenance works.

 Muchinga Province Provincial Roads Engineer, Peter Sinkonde, says routine road maintenance is essential to keeping the road network safe and passable while preventing minor defects from developing into costly damage.

Mr Sinkonde said activities such as vegetation control, clearing drainage channels and attending to minor road defects are important in protecting the road network and prolonging the lifespan of roads.

He said routine road maintenance works also provide opportunities for local businesses and workers to participate in maintaining roads within their communities.

Speaking during a contractors’ sensitisation workshop held at the Chinsali Municipal Council Chamber today, Mr Sinkonde said the workshop is aimed at helping contractors and prospective bidders understand how to prepare responsive bids.

“Our team will take you through the tender requirements, the documents that must be submitted, how to complete and price your bid, and the common omissions that can lead to disqualification,” Mr Sinkonde said.

He encouraged contractors across Muchinga Province to carefully study tender documents, seek clarification where necessary and ensure that their bids accurately reflect their capacity to undertake the works.

And gracing a one day sensitisation workshop, Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS), Brian Sichande said Government has created various opportunities that Zambian citizens and companies can access through public procurement.

Mr Sichande emphasised the need for contractors to understand the requirements before participating in the tendering process.

He said financial guarantee certification is among the requirements that contractors and suppliers need to understand when participating in Government procurement processes.

“At Government level, there are a lot of opportunities that Zambian citizens, whether as individuals or companies, can access. It is important for those intending to participate in Government procurement to understand the requirements and the relevant certification processes,” Mr Sichande said.

Mr Sichande further urged contractors to ensure that all required documents are properly prepared and submitted when responding to Government tenders, saying failure to meet mandatory requirements may result in bids being deemed non-responsive.

He said Government remains committed to creating opportunities for local businesses while ensuring transparency, accountability and value for money in public procurement.

The workshop brought together contractors and prospective bidders to enhance their understanding of tender requirements and procedures for routine road maintenance works in Muchinga Province.

Meanwhile, contractors have thanked RDA for the initiative, saying the engagement will help them to prepare correcting documents and bid correctly.

And speaking on behalf of the other local contractors, Chipasha Musonda said the knowledge acquired is vital to the progress of their businesses and their daily dealings in the construction sector.

Mr Musonda also pledged to put to good use the knowledge gained during the workshop.

“I also want to assure RDA that next time as they will be conducting evaluation of bids it will be competitive due to the knowledge that we have been empowered with,” he said.
