Government has disbursed over K16 million to 47 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) as part of efforts to strengthen local businesses and position them to tap into markets along the Lobito Corridor.

The intervention is being implemented under the Grow Zambia Agenda, with the Government providing grants and machinery to MSMEs to increase production, create jobs and take advantage of opportunities in neighbouring countries.

 Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Lemmy Kafwamfwa said Government wants businesses in areas such as Solwezi and the Copperbelt to be ready to supply markets in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mr Kafwamfwa disclosed that the government is funding and providing machinery to MSMEs operating in Solwezi and the industrial yards in Ndola and Kitwe to increase their production capacity.

He said the support is also intended to reach women who are unbanked and young people who may not easily access financing from commercial banks.

Mr Kafwamfwa emphasised that the objective is to ensure that MSMEs operating along the Lobito Corridor can produce competitively and access markets in neighbouring countries.
