A United Party for National Development (UPND) member in Mfuwe Constituency, Lavushimanda District has called for peace and unity in the country, especially during the 2026 general election aftermath.
Kennedy Mwansa who recently contested the Lavushimanda council chairperson position said there is need for peace among politicians and Zambia as a whole.
Mr Mwansa who came second in the race of council chairperson, to eventual winner, Yvonne Chisenga of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), said political parties should respect the views and decisions of the people.
He was speaking in an interview with the ZANIS in Lavushimanda District.
He warned that political conflicts and violence could negatively affect communities, particularly children who are not involved in the electoral process, as well as the country’s economy.
Mr Mwansa said Zambia is a Christian nation and that its Christian values should be demonstrated by avoiding conflicts and promoting peace.
“Let’s just harmonize, promote unity and promote Christianity as we are called a Christian nation,” he said.
He further stated that although political parties and individuals may have grievances, there is a proper way of addressing them without resorting to tribal remarks or violence.
He urged youths to reject violence, saying they should not allow themselves to be used by individuals or political parties to cause violence.
Mr Mwansa encouraged all political parties that did not perform well in the just ended elections to accept the outcome, stating that losing an election is not the end of everything.
He, however, congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election and called on residents of Lavushimanda District to respect and work together with the new leadership for the development of the district.
