Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) Executive Director, Maurice Nyambe, has called on all stakeholders participating in this year’s General Elections to adhere to the provisions of the law.

Mr Nyambe says stakeholders should comply with the Electoral Process Act, electoral guidelines and the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure a credible and peaceful election.

He also urged citizens to turn up in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to vote in tomorrow’s General Elections.

Mr Nyambe noted that voting is an important civic duty through which citizens contribute and strengthen democracy and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The TIZ Chief said this in an interview with the media in Lusaka today ahead of tomorrow’s General Elections.

Mr Nyambe has further called on all stakeholders to allow the electoral and results management processes to take their full course.

He revealed that TIZ has deployed long-term monitors across the country since March this year to monitor the electoral process and report issues observed on the ground.

And Mr Nyambe has appealed to candidates who will lose the elections to genuinely accept the outcome.

Mr Nyambe said there can only be one winner in an election, and urged all candidates and their supporters to respect the outcome and use the legal channels provided should they wish to challenge the results.

He noted that even in the event of electoral disputes, all parties should allow the prescribed appeal processes to take their full course.

Mr Nyambe said TIZ wants to see Zambia maintain the peace it has enjoyed over the years by ensuring that all electoral disputes are handled within the confines of the law.
