Zambia and Power Dynamos legend Peter Kaumba has been appointed to sit on the Chipolopolo Technical Committee.

FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya confirmed Kaumba’s appointment in a media statement.

Kaumba is an experienced coach who has previously coached the Zambia Under-23, Green Buffaloes, Kitwe United, Konkola Blades, Zamtel and Napsa Stars.

He is famous for being voted the best winger at the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, where Zambia finished third and he emerged as top scorer. In 1982, he was named Zambia’s Sportsman of the Year.

Chakatazya said Kaumba brings extensive football knowledge and experience to the committee.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr Peter Kaumba, a football legend and experienced coach, to the National Team Technical Committee. His knowledge and experience will add value to the committee’s work,” he said.

Kaumba has joined football icon Kalusha Bwalya, former national team star Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli, veteran coach Patrick Phiri and experienced coach Danny Kabwe on the committee.

Meanwhile, FAZ President Keith Mweemba has stepped aside as Chairperson of the National Team Technical Committee to allow him to focus fully on his wider responsibilities.

Chakatazya said the decision will enable the FAZ President to devote greater attention to the broader responsibilities of his office and other strategic priorities.

The FAZ President steps aside after a year at the helm of the committee, having hoped to guide it through its formative months and lay a strong foundation for its work.

“I also wish to inform all football stakeholders and members of the football family that the FAZ President has stepped aside as Chairperson of the Technical Committee to enable him to give greater attention to his broader responsibilities as President. A new Chairperson will be appointed and announced in due course,” Chakatazya said.

Meanwhile, Chakatazya confirmed the appointment of FAZ Luapula Province Chairperson Hans Mujala Mweemba as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee.

Former FIFA referee and COSAFA/CAF physical instructor Bernard Chabala has also been appointed to the committee.

Chakatazya said the appointment of Mweemba follows the departure of former Chairperson Gladys Lengwe.

“You will recall that Ms Gladys Lengwe stepped down as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee last year. The Executive Committee has therefore appointed Mr Hans Mujala Mweemba as her successor. Mr Bernard Chabala has also been appointed as a member of the committee,” he said.
