Nkana golfer Kedrick Silondwa survived a three-way countback to win the Discover Insurance Golf Championship at Nkana Golf Club.

Silondwa, off handicap 12, carded 42 points to top a tightly contested field and walk away with a K3,500 voucher and the overall winner’s trophy.

“It’s been a great day of golf and I can only thank Discover Insurance for deciding to spend their fourth birthday with us. We hope to see more of you around. To the players, I wish to thank you as well. It was really competitive and you made me work hard for my reward,” he said after receiving the trophy.

In the men’s category, Sam Mpundu also finished with 42 points to claim top prize on countback ahead of Tashbekov Djurabek, with Frank Masaka third on 35 points.

In the women’s category, Gladys Mudenda won outright with 35 points, one better than Emma Makoni, while Elisa Manjolo was third on 33 points.

In the subsidiary prizes, Mpundu won the nearest-to-the-pin award, Wiaan Le Roux won the longest drive in the men’s section, while Manjolo took the women’s award.

Discover Insurance Vice-Board Chairperson Chisuwo Hamwela said the tournament was organised to commemorate the company’s fourth anniversary and support the Grow Zambia Agenda.

“We are happy to celebrate our fourth anniversary with the business community and it’s been great. But on top of that, we are game for the Grow Zambia Agenda and while it is important to grow the economy, it is equally important to expand growth to other areas,” Hamwela said.

“Nkana Golf Club is doing that with its efforts with the junior golf programme and we are more than happy to supplement that with donations to the junior programme. At this tournament, we held a junior event and donated prizes in the form of school bags and more than a hundred golf balls.”

In the junior chipping contest, Peter Kasongo, Blessing Mambwe and Grace Washeni emerged winners.
