The arrival of Orlando Pirates forward Gamphani Lungu has completed the 27-member Chipolopolo squad called by Coach George Lwandamina for Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier opener against Algeria.

Zambia and Algeria face-off in the Group I tie at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Algiers.

Lungu and Joseph Liteta were the last two players to join the squad already in Algiers.

“Liteta arrived late last night, while Lungu landed in Algeria in the early hours of Tuesday and made his way straight to the team hotel, where he joined his teammates for breakfast shortly after arriving,” FAZ stated.

Europe based striker Patson Daka, defender Mathews Banda, forward Kingston Mutandwa, Ricky Chanda and Miguel Chaiwa arrived 24 hours earlier and were part of a training session at Tirsathone Stadium in the Azazga area of Tizi Ouzou on Monday.

Coach Lwandamina has expressed satisfaction with the players’ commitment and attitude since arriving in Algeria, describing their response as encouraging.

Chipolopolo will depart Algeria immediately after Friday’s match and return home to prepare for Match Day Two against Togo on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Zambia is in Group I with Algeria, Togo and Burundi for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. The finals will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
