The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has excused German-based Chipolopolo assistant coach Andrew Sinkala from the Zambia camp ahead of Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying opener against Algeria.

‎FAZ Secretary General Charles Chakatazya said Sinkala, the ex-Zambia midfielder, has been excused to attend to personal matters.
‎
‎”We would have loved to have a full technical bench, but Sinkala called and said he had some personal matters to handle and asked to be excused,” Chakatazya said.
‎
‎Sinkala was appointed Zambia assistant coach last November and was part of the Moses Sichone-led bench at the last Africa Cup in Morocco.
‎
‎He was retained after Sichone’s departure, with his last assignment being March’s international friendly against Argentina in Buenos Aires.
‎
‎Meanwhile, 2012 AFCON-winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has since joined the technical team in camp.
‎
‎Chipolopolo are scheduled to depart Algeria immediately after Friday’s match and return home to prepare for Match Day Two against Togo on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
