Mkushi Queens secured a 2-1 victory over Kapiri United Girls in a tightly contested Afriseed Women’s League encounter played over the weekend.

The first half ended goalless, with Kapiri United Girls dominating much of the opening 45 minutes.

However, Mkushi Queens returned from the break with renewed determination and put pressure on the visitors and broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Elizabeth Mwamba found the back of the net to make it -0.

Kapiri United Girls responded almost immediately, with Pretty Kangwa restoring parity in the 70th minute to level matters.

 Mkushi Queens continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Judith Nambela scored to put the home side back in front.

Despite late efforts from Kapiri United Girls to find another equaliser, Mkushi Queens held on to claim a 2-1 victory.

Mkushi Queens Head Coach Hector Kunda said although his team secured maximum points, the players did not perform to the expected standard.

 “Though we won, we did not play according to our expectations. Maybe it is because of the injuries that some of our players have. We hope that in the next fixture we shall play better. The players followed the instructions and picked up in the second half,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kapiri United Girls Coach Teddy Pensulo described the match as fair and accepted the result.

“The game was fair and the officiating was fair. We accept defeat. Both sides displayed good football, but there is room for improvement for both sides,” he said.

The victory gives Mkushi Queens confidence as they prepare for their next Afriseed Women’s League fixture
