The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has commenced the deployment of poll staff in Kanchibiya District ahead of this week’s general elections.

Kanchibiya District Electoral Officer (DEO) Augustine Chanda says the deployment follows briefings conducted for various stakeholders, including uniformed personnel, the media, Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and faith-based organisations.

He said the commission also conducted briefings for poll staff in preparation for their deployment to various polling stations across the district.

Mr Chanda said the deployment exercise will begin with staff assigned to the furthest areas, including Cheweshimfwamba to ensure that all personnel are in their respective areas before polling day.

He expressed hope that the deployment of all poll staff in the district will be completed by midday tomorrow.

And Mr Chanda has said that poll staff were also taking oaths of affirmation as part of the requirements for their engagement with the ECZ and the electoral process.

He urged all stakeholders who had been briefed by the commission to participate in the electoral process in accordance with established guidelines.

Mr Chanda said the guidelines and stakeholder engagements were aimed at ensuring effective coordination of operations among all players during the elections.

He also challenged the media to disseminate accurate information to members of the public who may not have an opportunity to witness activities taking place at various polling stations.

He added that police are expected to maintain peace and protect voters.

And Mr Chanda said the commission’s priority was to maintain voter confidence and ensure that the electoral process was free, fair and inclusive to all eligible citizens.
