The United Party for National Development (UPND) elections chairperson Likando Mufulali has urged members of the party who have gone independent to reverse their decision while there is still time.

He says the party is more than ready and willing to work with them.

Commenting on independent candidate for Mazabuka Central parliamentary seat, Gary Nkombo, Mufulali says there was no breakage of the relationship with the party, but only that Nkombo did not apply to contest as an MP and he was not fired.

“Nkombo was not fired, he did not resign and was still a member of the UPND,” he says.

Nkombo, has since declared his continued admiration for President Hakainde Hichilema, expressing confidence that the Head of State will secure victory in the August 13, 2026 General Elections.

Speaking to residents and traders at Nakambala Market yesterday, Nkombo said his respect for President Hichilema remains strong despite contesting the Mazabuka parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

President Hakainde Hichilema

He pointed out that if elected as Member of Parliament for Mazabuka, he would humbly approach President Hichilema and seek to continue working together for the development of the district and the country at large.

He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in leadership, saying political differences should not hinder development and service delivery to the people.

Nkombo also implored Mazabuka residents to support leaders who are committed to improving livelihoods, infrastructure, and economic opportunities in the district.

His sentiments attracted the attention of marketeers and residents who gathered to listen during his interaction at Nakambala Market.
