GOVERNMENT through the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) has distributed relief food to 247 households in Chovwe of Kalumbila District whose crops were destroyed by elephants earlier this year.
The relief food is aimed at cushioning the affected households and reducing the burden caused by the human-wildlife conflict.
Kalumbila District Commissioner, Brenda Sankisa commended government for responding to the needs of the affected communities.
Ms Sankisa stated that the human-wildlife conflict is a natural disaster and that the elephants are state property, requiring collective efforts to find lasting solutions.
And District Disaster Management Officer, Mumba Chilangwa disclosed that the consignment includes 360 bags by 25-kilograms mealie meal, 147 by 20 kilograms sugar, 94 bags by three-kilograms soya chunks and 18 bags by 50-kilograms beans.
