Family of the late former Cabinet Minister, Austin Liato, has expressed profound gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema, for having accorded Mr Liato a National Mourning.

Family representative, Jonathan Liato, also thanked the church, political leaders, friends and members of the public for standing with them during the period of National Mourning.

 speaking during the burial ceremony at Leopards Hill Memorial Park today, Mr Liato said the support and presence of mourners demonstrated the love and respect that people had for the late Mr Liato.

He said the family was particularly humbled by the presence of the President of the Republic of Zambia, through his representative, saying it was a demonstration of solidarity with the family during its time of grief.

Mr Liato also thanked serving and former Members of Parliament, ministers, civic and government leaders for standing with the family and honouring the life and service of the late Mr Liato.

He further expressed gratitude to church leaders and men and women of God for their prayers, words of comfort and for giving the bereaved family hope through the Christian message of resurrection.

Mr Liato also commended the church, service family, friends, choir, organisers and all those who assisted the family from the time of the late Liato’s death, saying their support helped ensure that the funeral proceedings were conducted with dignity and care.

He said Mr Liato lived a life dedicated to God and the people of Zambia, adding that the family would continue to remember and honour the late Mr Liato for his service to the nation and the people.
