The deployment of poll staff by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Chilubi District ahead of the August 13 General Election has reached an advanced stage.
The exercise, which began yesterday, is scheduled to be completed today.
Chilubi District Electoral Officer Kenneth Kafumbwe says poll staff that have been deployed to swamp areas are being airlifted using a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) chopper, while those assigned to the mainland are being transported by boats, before continuing their journey on vehicles and motorbikes.
Speaking in an interview with the media today in Chilubi today, Mr Kafumbwe expressed optimism that the deployment exercise will be completed before the close of business today.
Meanwhile, stakeholders observing the electoral process have welcomed the timely deployment of poll staff noting that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has taken into account Chilubi’s unique geographical challenges.
New Buyantanshi Village Headman, David Mwaba said the Commission’s proactive approach has ensured that staff reach their destinations on time.
Mr Mwaba further expressed happiness for the peaceful atmosphere that has characterised the electoral process in the area.
