The Zambia National Marketeers and Credit Agency (ZANAMACA) says there is need for the local authorities to engage non-state actors to provide sensitisation among players in the informal sector, on the importance of the recently launched digital payment system for council services.

ZANAMACA president Mupila Kameya says education and sensitisation is required to enable stakeholders to appreciate the importance of the shift to the digital platform.

Mr Kameya stated that non-state actors such as ZANAMACA, will be able to effectively interpret the necessity and convenience of using the digital system to the stakeholders.

He stressed that without traders, marketeers, and bus station operators fully understanding the digital system, its success would be limited and would not achieve its desired results.

“This comes at a time when we need it, it is a quick way to pay for levies, rates, meaning it will enhance domestic revenue collection, and also efficiency on both ends. The councils through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development just need to ensure that it bridges the gap by ensuring that it engages us the non-state actors to sensitise and educate the traders, marketeers and those in the bus stations across the country, ” he said.
