Police in Luanshya have traced two cattle whose carcasses were recovered in Kitwe to Chichetekelo Children’s Orphanage Farm in Kamishishi.

Copperbelt Division Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga  told the media that investigations established that the cattle, valued at K25, 000 in total, were stolen from the farm.

Mr Hamoonga said suspect Tilimbali Nyirenda, 36, led police officers to the farm on Monday morning.

At the farm, Gideon Siakamwi told police that he discovered a brown cow and a black cow missing at about 05:00 hours on Sunday.

Mr Siakamwi later identified the recovered carcasses as those of the missing animals.

Mr Nyirenda has since been jointly charged with other persons yet to be identified with theft of stock and is expected to appear in court soon.

The four pieces of carcass recovered in Kitwe have since been released to the owner through a court process.

A red Toyota Sienta, registration number BCG 6947 ZM, remains at Luanshya Central Police Station as an exhibit.

Earlier, police appealed to farmers in Luanshya District who had lost cattle to report to the police to help establish ownership of the recovered carcasses.

The appeal followed the recovery of carcasses believed to be from two stolen cattle at a house in Garnetone, Kitwe, where one suspect was arrested.

The animals were later traced to Luanshya and the matter was handed over to Luanshya police for further investigations.
