No Survivors: Wicknell Chivayo And Wife Lulu Named Among helicopter Crash Victims
Millionaire businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke, have reportedly died after a helicopter crashed near Marondera on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

ZimLive reported that Chivayo and Lulu were among six people killed in the crash. The report came shortly after the Government confirmed that a fatal helicopter crash had occurred and that there were no survivors.

The identities of the victims had initially not been released officially, but subsequent reports from ZimLive, Hopewell Chin’ono and TheNewsHawks identified Chivayo and Lulu among those who died.

Govt Confirms Fatal Marondera Helicopter Crash
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday evening.

In an official statement, Mangwana said the aircraft was carrying a high-profile businessman, passengers and two pilots.

“The Government wishes to confirm that a helicopter crash has occurred, involving one high-profile businessman, four passengers, and two pilots.”

He confirmed that the crash had resulted in deaths.

“Current information indicates that there were no survivors in this crash.”

Mangwana said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would release the names of the victims.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will confirm the names of the victims in due course.”

He also offered condolences to the victims’ families and friends.

“We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victims, their families, and their friends during this difficult time.”

The Government’s statement did not identify the businessman as Chivayo.

ZimLive Names Chivayo And Lulu
ZimLive subsequently reported that Chivayo had died in the crash and that his wife, Lulu Muteke, was also among the victims.

The publication wrote:

“MAJOR BREAKING: Millionaire tycoon Wicknell Chivayo has died after a helicopter crash in Marondera. His wife Lucy Muteke among the 6 victims. There were no survivors.”

ZimLive also linked the development to the earlier police confirmation that an aircraft had crashed in Marondera Rural at around 5pm.

The ZRP had stated:

“The ZRP confirms a plane crash in Marondera Rural area at 1700 hours. The aircraft had 6 occupants.”

There is a discrepancy between that figure and the Government’s later description of one businessman, four passengers and two pilots, which totals seven people. Authorities had not explained the difference by the time of publication.

ZimLive’s identification of Chivayo and Lulu therefore remains the key source for their names, pending the ZRP’s formal release of the victims’ identities.

The publication’s latest report names Chivayo and Lulu as victims of the Marondera crash, while the Government has independently confirmed the fatal crash but has not yet publicly named the victims.

The final confirmation of the victims’ identities is expected from the ZRP, while authorities have yet to clarify the discrepancy between the six occupants cited in the initial police statement and the seven people described in the Government’s statement.
