October 1, 2026
Former Mandevu Constituency independent candidate in the August 2026 general elections, Adrian Banda, has rejoined the United Party for National Development (UPND) to contribute to President Hakainde Hichilema’s Grow Zambia Agenda.
Welcoming Mr Banda back to the UPND on Thursday, National Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso described him as a prodigal son of the party and expressed happiness that he had returned with his team to support the development agenda being championed by President Hichilema.
Mr Liswaniso said President Hichilema is committed to grooming young people to take up leadership positions in politics and other sectors of the economy.
“The President has the heart for young people to flourish in politics and other sectors of the economy, hence promoting young people to take up leadership positions,” Mr Liswaniso said.
He said the UPND is a political party for everyone because it has room to accommodate all Zambians willing to contribute to taking the country forward.
Mr Liswaniso called on the UPND leadership, particularly in Lusaka Province, to welcome Mr Banda and his team while continuing to recruit more members into the party.
“Our job as leaders is to recruit more members because President Hichilema has shown us that we are all Zambians and should accommodate everyone willing to join the party and contribute to development,” he said.
Mr Liswaniso said President Hichilema has continued to champion peace and the principles of One Zambia, One Nation and One People, adding that national development could only be achieved through unity.
Mr Banda has thanked President Hichilema and the UPND leadership for accepting him and his team back into the party, while commending Mr Liswaniso for his leadership among young people.
“I have rejoined the UPND because it is a winning team, and I am ready to contribute to the development of the party and the country as a whole,” he said.
