JOINING RULING PARTY NOT A TICKET TO DEVELOPMENT – KANKOYO MP Bishop  Chomba

Kankoyo Member of Parliament, Hon Dr Bishop Ed Chomba, has dismissed the notion that a constituency can only develop if its MP belongs to the ruling party, describing it as a shallow and misleading mentality.

Hon. Chomba says Zambians must move away from the belief that service delivery is tied to political affiliation, noting that history has shown that even staunch members of a party in power have failed to deliver for their people.

He says it is wrong to think that an MP who is not a member of the ruling party cannot work for the people.

According to him, no responsible government can neglect its citizens simply because the MP in that area is from the opposition or is independent.

Dr. Chomba submitted that the UPND Government has a mandate to serve the people of Zambia and not him as an individual, stating that his interest is not to serve himself but the people of Kankoyo.

He was responding to calls from some sections suggesting that he should join the ruling UPND for development to come to Kankoyo Constituency.

The Kankoyo lawmaker says such thinking is misplaced, pledging instead to work with the UPND Government for the betterment of the people of Kankoyo.

He emphasized that development should not be based on political affiliations, but on genuine service to the people.
