MUCHINGA Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Brian Sichande says government recognises corruption as a serious threat to national development as it undermines public confidence and diverts resources from intended purposes.

Mr Sichande said government remains committed to strengthening institutions, laws and systems that prevent and combat corruption.

He said this during the stakeholder consultation meeting on the Draft Criminal Asset Management Bill held in Chinsali.

Mr Sichande observed that the consultation on the Criminal Asset Management Bill is in line with the National Policy on Anti-Corruption launched in 2024

He explained that the fight against corruption must go beyond investigating and prosecuting offenders to ensure proceeds of crime are identified, seized, forfeited and managed for the benefit of Zambians.

Meanwhile, ACC Director General, Daphne Chabu who was represented by Director of Investigations Gibson Chizanda, said effective management of assets from proceeds of crime has potential to boost public confidence in the fight against corruption.
