President elect Hakainde Hichilema has received congratulatory messages from his Angolan and Somalian counterparts following his re-election.

Angolan President João Lourenço and his Somalian counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have both congratulated President elect Hichilema on his victory in the August 13, 2026 general elections.

In his message, President Lourenço said the Zambian people had renewed their confidence in President elect Hichilema, whom he described as a leader capable of guaranteeing a predictable future and creating conditions necessary for national progress and development.

President Lourenço noted that the elections demonstrated the democratic maturity of the Zambian people, particularly in a context where the preservation of the national interest, patriotism and respect for the sovereign decision of citizens remained important.

He wished President elect Hichilema success as he begins his second term.

President Lourenço however expressed hope that Angola and Zambia will continue working together to deepen bilateral cooperation and implement projects aimed at promoting the development of the two countries.

President Lourenço further conveyed his wishes for good health, personal well-being and prosperity to the Zambian people.

Meanwhile, President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has also congratulated President elect Hichilema on his re-election.

President Mohamud wished President Hichilema success during his second term and reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Zambia on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

And Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister, Gideon Sa’ar has congratulated President Hichilema on his re-election, while also congratulating the people of Zambia on what he described as an important celebration of democracy.

Mr Sa’ar said the Zambian people had exercised their democratic right to shape the country’s future.

He said Israel values its friendship with Zambia and expressed optimism about continuing to strengthen relations between the two countries.
