Former Defence Minister and businessman Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that he has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) ahead of Zambia’s 2026 General Elections.
In a public statement released on Friday morning, GBM clarified that he has not made any recent political pronouncements or endorsed any presidential candidate, urging the public to disregard claims linking him to any political campaign.
“I have been made aware of insinuations suggesting that I have endorsed or encouraged Zambians to vote for HH as my preferred candidate. Let me state unequivocally that I have not made such pronouncements in recent times, nor have I participated in any political engagement,” GBM said.
The former Kasama Central Member of Parliament explained that his primary focus is now on business, describing himself as a hands-on entrepreneur who is fully committed to managing his enterprises.
According to GBM, politics should not become a lifelong occupation, adding that leadership should eventually make room for new entrants.
“My core passion has always been business. I am a hands-on businessman, fully dedicated to my enterprises. Politics is a vocation that, at the right time, must be left to new entrants rather than treated as a perpetual livelihood,” he stated.
GBM also emphasized that, like every Zambian citizen, he has the constitutional right to vote for a candidate of his choice while keeping that decision private.
He noted that if he ever chooses to publicly support a political candidate, he would do so openly and without hesitation.
“Should I ever decide to endorse a candidate, I will do so openly, without fear or favour, and with the objective of serving the greater good of our beloved country and its citizens,” he added.
The businessman further revealed that he is concentrating on his health and personal recovery following his prison sentence, saying the experience has strengthened his resilience and shifted his priorities toward living purposefully.
GBM said his current focus remains on rebuilding his businesses and contributing positively to Zambia’s economic development rather than participating in active politics.
His statement comes amid growing political speculation on social media as the country prepares for the 2026 General Elections, with several public figures being linked to various political endorsements.
By distancing himself from the rumours, GBM has made it clear that he has not endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema or any other candidate and remains committed to his business ventures and personal well-being.
