The United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairman of Elections and Campaigns Likando Mufalali has advised aspiring candidates and members of party that primary election results or candidate rankings do not automatically translate into adoption by the party.

In a memo dated 13th May 2026, Mufalali stated that the party’s National Management Committee (NMC) had resolved in 2021 that rankings and primary processes were only part of a broader adoption procedure undertaken by the party.

He explained that several other factors and internal processes are considered before a final candidate is adopted to represent the party.

“Therefore, members are advised to avoid unnecessary celebrations either on social media or mainstream media, as such acts may lead to divisions,” Mufalali stated.

The UPND Elections and Campaigns Chairperson further urged all aspirants, party structures and the general membership to remain guided by the party’s procedures and to uphold unity during the ongoing adoption process.
