New Zesco United coach Mwenya Chipepo has admitted he has to prove his mettle after being handed one of the biggest and most demanding coaching jobs in the Super League.

‎Zesco last week unveiled Chipepo as the new head coach.

‎He becomes the first trainer in the Super League to coach Copperbelt football giants Nkana, Power Dynamos and Zesco.

‎Chipepo said he is aware that for Zesco to hire him, they want silverware, and that coaching big teams comes with pressure.

‎“Pressure will always be there but the most important thing is to work hard. I’m sure I’m going to work hard at Zesco United with the help of supporters, fans and everyone at Zesco. I can’t work alone, in this game you have to work with people,” he said.

‎The coach said the club’s ambitions are clear.

‎“When they give you a job, what else do they need? They need points, they need trophies, they need a league,” Chipepo said.

‎Chipepo is a Super League title winning coach with Power Dynamos.

‎He launched his coaching career at Young Power before stints as head coach at Prison Leopards, Indeni and Forest Rangers.

‎The appointment at Zesco marks his return to the top of Copperbelt football, with expectations high for immediate results and continental qualification.
