Government has completed the distribution of farming inputs to 1,040 beneficiaries under the wetland component of the Food Security Pack in Nakonde District in Muchinga Province.
Nakonde Assistant Community Development Officer Maxon Tembo says the district was implementing three components of the programme, namely rain-fed, wetland and alternative livelihood.
Mr Tembo explained that beneficiaries under wetland received either a full package of one bag of urea, one bag of D compound and 5 kilograms of maize seed or alternative packs that included CAN fertiliser, D compound, red onion and eggplant or impwa seed.
He added that the programme continues to help reduce poverty levels among vulnerable households in the district.
Mr Tembo further revealed that government has started delivering inputs for the rain-fed component, with 783 bags of maize seed received so far, and more expected soon.
He assured that distribution under the rain-fed will begin once all inputs have been delivered.
Mr Tembo stated that government remains committed to supporting small-scale farmers through social protection programmes aimed at enhancing food security and improving livelihoods.
