A 65-year-old man of Kasongo village in Chief Kalasalukangaba in Mansa district has divorced his wife for seeking help from a witchdoctor to allegedly help her stop seeing her husband’s late wife.

Amos Kabwe sought to divorce his wife, Beatrice Chiwele, 56, of fourteen years before senior local magistrate, Joshua Chama at Mansa local court.

In his testimony, Kabwe said that he married his wife, Chiwele in 2012 and the two have been living together raising children they both came from from their previous relationships.

Kabwe also said that he got a job in 2020 and went away leaving the wife at home who at a later time called to inform him of her sickness, claiming that she was seeing his late wife.

Kabwe added that his wife left her matrimonial home to go and live with her family and friends while seeking healing from witchdoctors

He narrated to the court that when she returned home, he asked her to stop visiting witchdoctors but she couldn’t and he therefore got her a summon to dissolve their marriage.

In her account, Chiwele said her marriage was failing because of an extramarital relationship her husband was involved in.

She said they lived happily from 2012 until 2020 when her husband got into an extra marital affair.

She added that she tried talking to her husband out of that relationship and he left the affair in April 2021 but again found another woman who she believes is the cause of their divorce.

Chiwele also said that her husband retired in 2024 but she never benefited from his retirement benefits, as he instead made a budget with another woman.

She said in the same year, Kabwe got sick and it took her to nurse him until he recovered, regardless of how he treated her.

Responding to the allegations of seeking help from witchdoctors, Chiwele said that she dreamed of Kabwe’s late wife which contributed to her having high blood pressure and from that time she started getting sick whenever she entered her home.

Chiwele said that she made a decision to go and live with her sister while seeking help and her husband was fully aware of it.

After recovering fully, she went home on 22nd July 2026, but her husband sent her away.

Senior local magistrate Joshua Chama granted the couple a divorce effective 18th August 2026, with spousal maintenance of K250.00 for three years.
