Government has conveyed its deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the late Minister of Works and Transport, Mutotwe Kafwaya, following his death.
Government has described the incident as unfortunate and has conveyed its solidarity with all those mourning the loss.
Members of the public have been advised that no further official comments will be issued on the matter at this time, as investigations have been taken up by law enforcement authorities.
Speaking when he addressed the media in Lusaka today, Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa emphasised the importance of peace, unity and stability citing that they are the defining hallmarks of the country.
Mr Kangwa urged the nation to defend and protect the peace, unity and stability it has had since independence.
He however noted with concern the increase in social media content which promotes hatred, cruelty, and insulting language by citizens on the pretext of freedom of expression.
Mr Kangwa further adds that prominent political personalities, some of whom once served as law makers publish and share social media content that is calling for homicide.
“Government wishes to condemn the inappropriate behavior that is slowly emerging in the strongest possible terms because it goes against our Christian values,” he stated.
He adds that the government underscores the fact that there cannot be any social, economic and political development without peace, unity and stability.
“Our democracy depends on it, our economy depends on it, our lives depend on it,” he said.
He has since commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), poll officials, security personnel, election observers, the media as well as the voters who worked tirelessly to deliver the election.
He has since called on all Zambians to actively protect the cherished peace and refrain from violence, the destruction of property and any form of provocation.
