BOGUS MEDIC ARRESTED AFTER WOMAN DIES DURING THROAT PROCEDURE

A 40-year-old man has been arrested after a 51-year-old woman died during an alleged surgical procedure at a house in Unit D, Seke, Chitungwiza.

The suspect, Douglas Mutore, allegedly performed the procedure on Magret Gwamura, 51, on 24 September 2026, using a surgical blade.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the woman died during the procedure before Mutore allegedly fled the scene.

“The victim died during the procedure, after which the suspect allegedly fled from the scene,” police said.

Officers who attended the scene recovered surgical instruments, blood-stained bandages and used medication.

Police said investigations also established that Mutore “was not in possession of practising certificates at the time of his arrest.”

The ZRP has urged members of the public to verify the credentials of anyone offering medical services.

“The ZRP urges the public to verify the credentials of persons offering medical services and to seek treatment from registered medical practitioners and recognised health institutions,” police said.
