Zambia : President Hichilema Accords Late Dr Monze Official Funeral
Lusaka - Zambia: President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded an official funeral to the late Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Namani Monze.

In a press statement issued to the media, Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, says the Head of State has since declared Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a day of National Mourning in honour of the late Dr Monze.
Mr Kangwa says President Hichilema has honoured Dr Monze in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation and his contribution to the Public Service.
He noted that Dr Monze made significant contributions to the development of ophthalmology in the health sector and provided leadership in the implementation of government programmes in Southern Province.
Mr Kangwa said the late Dr Monze will be put to rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at his farm, Lot No. 4529/M, in Bwacha Ward off the Great North Road in Choma district.
He says the burial will be preceded by an official funeral church service to be held at the farm starting at 10:00 hours.
The Secretary to the Cabinet said the national mourning will be observed from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours, during which all national flags will fly at half-mast.
The late Dr Monze, aged 52, died after an illness at Choma General Hospital on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
