Political parties in Mbala District have declared readiness to participate in the forthcoming Mayoral by-election scheduled for November 5, 2026.

United Party for National Development (UPND) Mbala District Chairperson, Mutale Chanda, says the party is prepared to participate in the electoral process and thanked the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for giving the electoral road map to political parties in advance.

Mr Chanda has since pledged the ruling party’s commitment to conduct its campaign peacefully and urged all participating political parties to uphold peace throughout the electoral process.

“We are ready to take part in this election, all we can call for is for all parties involved to remain peaceful and campaign in an orderly manner,” he said.

And National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Mbala District Chairperson, Lawrence Sinyangwe has also confirmed that his party is ready to participate in the by-election.

Mr Sinyangwe said the party is always ready to exercise its electoral rights and participate in the democratic process.

“We are always ready to exercise our electoral rights and participate in the democratic process, as a party here in Mbala we are ready,” Mr Sinyangwe said.

And Citizens First Northern Province Chairperson, Alphonsal Mulenga has also confirmed his party’s preparedness to contest the by-election

The Mbala Mayoral by-election is being held following the death of Mayor-elect Steward Simutenda on August 19, 2026 after an illness.

The election is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2026 while filing of nominations is scheduled for October 8, 2026.
