More than 300 households in Soweto Compound of Dilika Ward in Chipata Central Constituency have gained improved access to clean and safe water following the completion and operationalisation of two solar-powered water kiosks.

The two kiosks were constructed at a cost of more than K2 million under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and are now supplying water to residents who previously faced challenges accessing reliable sources of safe water.

Chipata City Council Assistant Public Relations Officer Grace Lungu said the project would significantly improve the living standards of residents by reducing the distance and time spent searching for safe water.

Ms Lungu said improved access to clean water would also contribute to better public health, sanitation and hygiene in the community.

She said the project was a demonstration of the impact of CDF in addressing critical community needs and improving access to essential services.

Ms Lungu added that the operationalisation of the two water kiosks had provided a much-needed solution to the longstanding water challenges faced by residents of Soweto.

She said access to clean and safe water was essential to ensuring a healthy and dignified life for community members.
