Mr Mudemba who stood on the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) ticket, stated that he greatly acknowledges and appreciates the hard work small-scale traders put into conducting their daily business.
He noted that rather than condemning street vending, he wants to work hand in hand with the vendors to ensure they maintain the town’s cleanliness.
Mr Mudemba explained that his plan involves actively engaging street vendors to reach a mutual agreement, requiring them to keep their trading spaces clean.
“Under this approach, vendors will clean up after themselves at the end of each day’s trading in a given area to ensure no litter remains on the street,” he said.
Mr Mudemba noted that it is important to embrace the traders, as vending serves as the primary livelihood for many vulnerable families and poor women.
Additionally, Mr Mudemba thanked the people of Mufulira district for having confidence in his leadership.
He stated that he is committed to being a servant of the people who listens to their needs, emphasising that he does not want to impose top-down plans for the district.
“I want to listen to the people as they are the ones who understand their needs best and I will work closely with the people,” Mr Mudemba said.
The Mayor pledged to ensure that the district remains clean and green, assuring the electorate that he is fully committed to fulfilling his campaign promises and not letting them down.
