Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, has directed all government institutions to prioritise the adoption and utilisation of the Smart Office Platform in their operations.

Mr Kangwa has further instructed the Smart Zambia Institute to submit a progress report to his office by end of October, on the onboarding of ministries, provinces, spending agencies, state-owned enterprises and other public institutions.

He has emphasised that the Smart Office Platform, a flagship digital government solution is designed to transform how public institutions conduct business, manage records, process workflows and deliver services.

Speaking during the handover of the Smart Office Management System to the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) in Chongwe, Mr Kangwa underscored digital transformation as a strategic imperative for national development.

“Ministries, provinces, spending agencies, state-owned enterprises and other public institutions are directed to work closely with the Smart Zambia Institute, towards accelerating the implementation of the smart office and other related digital government solutions”, the Secretary to the Cabinet stressed.

Speaking at the same event, Smart Zambia Institute National Coordinator, Percy Chinyama, explained that the platform will enable seamless workflow automation, secure electronic records management, paperless governance and improve transparency and accountability.

He noted that ZACL stands to benefit from significant operational cost savings by reducing expenditure on stationery, printing and manual records management.

“These benefits demonstrate the value of digital transformation in modernising institutional operations and enhancing organisational performance,” he said.

And ZACL Managing Director, Urvesh Desai, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the system would improve turnaround times while strengthening transparency and accountability at the institution.

He added that it would also support more efficient decision-making and enhance service delivery across the Corporation.

“Technology can only transform an organisation when its people are committed to making it work. I am happy to confirm that 100 percent of head office staff have been trained and 406 more in other stations will be trained by end of November 2026,” he disclosed.
