A 43-year-old man of Kazembe Village in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province, has been shot dead by unknown people.

Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Lubinda Mayamba identified the deceased as Weston Siame.

Mr Mayamba, who confirmed the incident to the media, said the shooting occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at around 19:00 hours.

He said Mr Siame, who was in a polygamous marriage, was shot while walking from his second wife’s house to his first wife’s house in the same village.

“The deceased married two wives and had eight children. On the material day, he left the second wife’s house to spend a night at the first wife’s house and was shot a few metres away along the footpath,” Mr Mayamba said.

He said the second wife heard a gunshot and rushed to investigate, only to find her husband lying lifeless about 50 metres from her house.

Mr Mayamba said the matter was reported to police, who visited the scene, located about 48 kilometres from Nakonde Central Business District, and found the body lying on its side on a narrow footpath.

He said a physical inspection revealed a gunshot wound on the left side of the chest, with a homemade firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting.

Mr Mayamba said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had previously been accused of practising witchcraft and that some villagers had engaged a witch finder who allegedly found him guilty.

He said the body has since been deposited at Nakonde Urban Clinic Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Mr Mayamba said the motive for the murder remains unknown and that police have opened a docket and instituted investigations to apprehend the suspected perpetrator.
