Maamba Solar Energy Limited (MSEL) has commenced evacuating 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity into the ZESCO national grid.

The 100 MW solar project complements Maamba Energy Limited’s 600 MW thermal power generation portfolio, comprising 300 MW currently operational and a further 300 MW under construction at Maamba.

According to a statement issued by the MSEL Corporate Affairs Department, the solar power project entered the commissioning phase on September 24, 2026, with electricity injection into the national grid forming part of the commissioning process.

MSEL Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lieutenant Colonel Cyrus Minwalla (Retired), said the commencement of the commissioning phase of the 100 MW solar power project was an important milestone for both MSEL and Zambia.

Mr Minwalla said the project will significantly increase renewable energy generation capacity in Zambia’s power system and contribute to the diversification of the country’s energy mix.

“The project is aligned with Government ‘s target to achieve 1000 MW Solar power in this year and cumulative 10,000 MW by 2031,” he stated.

He disclosed that the project incorporates modern tracking technology that enables solar modules to follow the movement of the sun during the day, thereby improving solar energy capture.
