In a landmark move for inclusive healthcare, the Ministry of Health has officially approved Zambia’s first Social Behaviour Change (SBC) communication materials dedicated to male breast cancer.

The approval was granted to the Male Breast Cancer Foundation.

And Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Donor Coordination George Sinyangwe explained that the approval enables the Foundation to print and disseminate the resources in support of awareness-raising of male breast cancer among men.

“The Ministry greatly appreciates and values the Male Breast Cancer Foundation’s continued collaboration and partnership in advancing public health priorities towards achieving national development objective” Dr Sinyangwe stated.

 founder of Male Breast Cancer Foundation Boaz Musamvu, the move breaks a decades-long silence that has left men out of national breast cancer campaigns and fueled the dangerous myth that breast cancer is only a women’s disease.

Mr Musamvu added that while male breast cancer is less common, Zambian men do develop the disease and are often diagnosed late due to low awareness, stigma, and lack of male-specific information.

He indicated that the new posters will be rolled out nationally to educate men and communities on warning signs, self-examination, and the critical need to seek early medical attention.

“This is more than an approval; it is a life-saving shift in narrative. For too long, men have suffered in silence. These materials ensure men are finally seen, informed, and included in the fight against breast cancer,” Mr Musamvu stated.

He thanked the Ministry of Health for its leadership in championing inclusive awareness, its global strategic partner the Male Breast Cancer Global Alliance (MBCGA) for sustained advocacy and technical support, and its Patron, Chief Mumena XI, for his instrumental leadership in advancing the cause.

“The milestone is expected to improve early detection, reduce stigma, and save lives,” Mr Musamvu noted.
