Government says it has disbursed about K15 million toward sports development from January to June this year as part of its efforts to promote youth and community sports.

‎Ministry of Youth Sports and Arts Acting Chief Accountant Cheelo Chiyanika disclosed the development when he paid a courtesy call on Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Brian Sichande in Chinsali today.
‎
‎He said the ministry has since visited the area to monitor and ascertain whether the released funds have achieved the intended outcomes.
‎
‎Mr Chiyanika said community sport, local authorities have undertaken a number of sporting activities.
‎
‎He added that the ministry has set specific targets for the year, and the ongoing assessments will review milestones achieved so far.
‎
‎And the Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Brian Sichande defended the disbursement of K15 million for sports development, saying investment in sport is an important part of national development.
‎
‎He said the government considers sporting activities as key priorities hence the decision to sustain them despite budget pressures.
‎
‎Mr Sichande added that with K15 million already disbursed, it was important to physically verify that the money was being utilized for the intended purpose.
‎
‎The assessment is also covering youth resource centers and community sports programs being run through local authorities, with a focus on milestones and youth benefits.
