Chipolopolo and Hamburg striker Patson Daka made a low-key Bundesliga debut on Saturday as his new side fell 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund on the opening weekend of the new season.

It was Daka’s first league appearance in Germany, just over a month after switching from England.

The Zambian international started up front and played 67 minutes before being replaced by Nigerian Terem Moffi.

Daka’s biggest moment came in the second half when he struck the outside of the post following good link-up play from Louis Lemke.

According to match statistics from BBC Sport, the former Leicester man registered three shots on the day in front of a crowd of 81,365 fans.

Dortmund took control early. Serhou Guirassy and Giannis Konstantelias scored to give BVB a 2-0 win and three points to start their Bundesliga campaign.

Daka joins Hamburg after five years at Leicester City, a spell that saw the club suffer two relegations from the Premier League to League One.

Before England, he starred in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg.

Hamburg will look to bounce back when they host Mainz in their next Bundesliga fixture.

Internationally, Daka is expected to lead the Chipolopolo frontline in next month’s back-to-back Africa Cup qualifiers against Algeria and Togo.
