Zambia : Husband Of Tanzania's President Dies

President Hakainde Hichilema has conveyed his deepest condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

In a message of sympathy, President Hichilema said Zambia stood in solidarity with the First Family and the people of Tanzania during the period of mourning.

“We convey our deepest condolences to Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan on the passing of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan. We stand side by side with the First Family, and all citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania during this difficult time,” President Hichilema said.

Hafidh Ameir Hassan, who became Tanzania’s First Gentleman in 2021 when President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office, died on Monday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar.

Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, announced the death and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He said Hassan had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.

According to Tanzanian authorities, burial arrangements are underway and Mr Hassan will be laid to rest in Zanzibar, the family’s native home.

President Hichilema joined leaders and citizens across the region in mourning the passing of the Tanzanian First Gentleman.
