The Copper Queens are confident ahead of Wednesday night’s decisive Group C match against Malawi at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat.

‎Kick off is 22h00 at Al Madina Stadium. Zambia must beat Group C leaders Malawi to advance to the quarterfinals, while Malawi will only need a draw to finish top of the group.

‎Zambia opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Egypt before a 1-0 loss to Nigeria.

‎Coach Nora Häuptle said the team’s quarter-final destiny remains in their own hands and the squad is approaching the game with positivity.

‎“We are in a good position, all in our hands. For me, it’s a privilege to be in this situation. To play the last game in this group and to be in the situation where it’s in our hands. We don’t need to rely on other results but what we face; that’s not pressure,” Häuptle said.

‎The Swiss trainer said Zambia will focus on performance rather than qualification permutations.

‎“We don’t go out and calculate tomorrow on the pitch. We go out and focus on our performance, as always. We have a clear approach to how we want to face Malawi. I think we played three very good halftimes out of the last four, and we want to build on this stable approach,” Häuptle said.

‎She predicted a tough match, noting both teams are evenly matched and know each other well.

‎“Tactic-wise, there are not so many secrets, I would say, in this game, but again, we bounce back to us,”_ she added.

‎Goalkeeper Hazel Nali said the team is ready for the challenge.

‎“We know exactly what we want and we know exactly what’s on the table. Our main focus is to work extra hard because football is played on the pitch. What we want as a team is to fight and give our all for the country.”

‎Nali said the team is working on containing Malawi’s speed and is not dwelling on past results.

‎The top four semi-finalists at WAFCON will qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
