TONSE ALLIANCE DECLARES NRPUP LEADERS POLITICAL OPPONENTS

The Tonse Alliance has apologised to its members, alliance partners and the general public over what it describes as the betrayal of the Alliance by the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity — NRPUP.

In a media statement issued on 18 September 2026, Tonse Alliance/FDD Deputy Spokesperson Anthony Chibuye says the Alliance had placed its trust in NRPUP leadership while working together to address what it describes as the suffering of Zambians.

Mr Chibuye says the Alliance believes that trust has been undermined, affecting NRPUP President Ezra Tembo, Secretary General Nonde Mubanga, and the political cause represented by the Alliance.

He says, as a result, the Tonse Alliance now regards Mr Tembo and Mr Mubanga as political opponents.

The Alliance says its immediate priority is to maintain unity among its members and partners while addressing the differences through established Alliance structures.

It has also urged its members and supporters to remain calm, united and disciplined, stressing that political disagreements should be expressed peacefully and within the law.
